New York Gallery

Chinese Contemporary is pleased to announce the opening of a new space in New York City. With the opening of this new gallery at 535 W. 24th Street in Chelsea, Chinese Contemporary adds the exciting works of contemporary Chinese artists to New York's thriving contemporary art scene. New York's truly global art environment provides an unprecedented stage on which to introduce Chinese artists to the world and to give a broader audience the opportunity to view the compelling works that are currently being produced in mainland China.

Chinese Contemporary gallery opened ten years ago in London and, in 2004, opened a gallery in Beijing at Factory 798. Chinese Contemporary is dedicated to showing the work of the Chinese avant garde post-1989. It has an exhibition programme which shows a complete spectrum of media from paintings to photos, performances, ink on paper and videos. The gallery specialises in artists living and working in Mainland China as it believes these artists are closely in tune with the considerable changes their country is undergoing and which is reflected in their art. It is a world historical situation where a communist government reigns over a vibrant market economy and provides rich ground for artistic creation.
